This computer has been driving me completely nuts. I built this computer in November, and just had problems while playing games. When I play games, after a while, the PC locks up and makes a loud buzzing noise. I've tried so many things but nothing but failure. I've been trying to solve this for a LONG time and just really want to trash this thing. I'm clueless at this point and really need a solution asap.

Here are the steps I took:
Reinstalled Windows, at least 7 times.
Disable sleep options in Windows
Disable multiple audio devices
Bought a new gold certified power supply. EVGA SUPERNOVA GS 650w, no luck there either
RMA'd motherboard, no luck still
memtest ram, tested one at a time and they're both good.
prime95, blend test for 24 hours and small ffts for another 24 hours, completely stable.
Tried adding an extra 10v to my gpu, no luck again
Checked temps, and there good, gpu max 72 underload, cpu 45 under load
I don't overclock, so that's not a freezing factor
Reinstalled drivers countless times...

There was also this weird instance while I was testing the ram, I just one of my ram sticks and it didn't happen for a solid and wonderfull 5 days before freezing on OverWatch and the other froze in a day..

This has been a long and painful ride, I love this computer but these freezes ruin my experience, any help is appreciated, thanks.

PC Specs:
i5 6600
ASUS Z170-A
Asus GTX 970
Corsair DDR4 16GB 2133
Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo
EVGA superNOVA GS 650w
Sandisk 240gb ssd
WD Blue 1tb
NZXT S340, good airflow along with 2 extra fans i've installed as well.

Solution
Try turning off audio in the nvidea control panel under hdmi audio. It solved the exact same problem for me on two different systems. I use optical to a receiver anyway.
But try it to test regardless.

Well, if it's only when gaming.................. could be the GPU, that would be my guess for sure.

Sounds like it locks up, coil whine, and then you can't do anything, since it's powering the display interface or GUI. See if you can borrow a friend's GPU maybe? My guess if the GPU though...

Take everything out of the case, clean it, and reinstall it. Something must be shorting somewhere due to placement in your case. Check all fans and make sure nothing can potentially "settle" into a fan (like a tag on a wire or anything). GPU most likely culprit if while gaming.

I think i'm going to just RMA my graphics card... I made sure while rebuiling my computer when I got the motherbaord back from an RMA to dust it and make sure all the connections are good. But thanks for your advice.

Yeah it's weird, it only happens during gaming. My GPU also does have a coil whine, the fan makes a pretty bad noise, but that 's not as bad as a completely unstable card. I wish it was only just the coil whine.

igdkmd64.sys was something due to an intel driver being out of date so I updated it, and i also did this in cmd chkdsk /f /r and sfc /scannow. (no errors with sfc /scannow and i didn't see what chkdsk /f /r did because I was afk.) Still very conflicted at this point and don't know what to think of this, I think I should also mention that when I had my GPU in I've had a startup bluescreen that was SYSTEM THREAD EXCEPTION NOT HANDLED, but this only happened once. Ugh.
