First PC I've built in about 10 years. All my parts are brand new from a trusted retailer and here is the build.

The issue is; when I turn my computer on, everything appears to work, lights come on, on the motherboard, all fans start spinning, my keyboard and mouse lights turn on and it appears to be working just fine (except it doesn't sound like it quite boots properly, I know the sound well and it is pretty universal, but could be different with all brand new parts). However I receive no image on my monitor. At first I had my 2 brand new monitors plugged in to the HDMI slots, then figured this was probably a bad idea, then hooked it up straight to the motherboard with a VGA cable - didn't work so I tried a brand new VGA cable (the one it came with) still didn't work, tried my old monitor that I know works still nothing.

I don't have a system speaker (I'll be picking one up ASAP).

I powered it off and went through and unplugged everything then put it all back making sure it all clicked/was flush, including taking my ram out and putting it in different slots and making sure it clicked in like it should. Tried it again - no dice.

I found the check list thread on here after some googling, so I went through the checklist and the only thing I missed were the stand offs so I pulled it all apart, noticed the case I have has the raise slots and when you put the stand offs in you can't get the MB to sit right for the back panel. I did however notice 3 points where my MB sat and there were screw holes but not raised so I put them here accordingly.

I was very careful with the CPU making sure to put it in the correct way as per the instructions. I haven't noticed any broken or bent pins/capacitors/batteries etc. I have even completely pulled everything apart and carefully put it all back again to make sure (including taking the CPU out, checking for damage and put it all back together with more precision and care.

I attempted several times to reset the CMOS by shorting it as per the motherboards PDF but haven't been brave enough to try too hard to take it out completely (any advice?) as I have tried but am afraid of damaging it.

When building my PC I was sure to always be in contact with metal, didn't do it on carpet (2 tables 1 glass 1 on a wood desk both on a lino floor). I unplugged and replugged everything multiple times, I made sure the GPU was secure and pushed all the way in.
I have tried 1 RAM stick in both channels, I've tried 2 RAM sticks in both channels. I've bread boarded (took everything out and rebuilt it all with my motherboard on my desk and made sure it wasn't in contact with my case (had to have it close because the power supply etc).

When I built it on pc part picker, there weren't any compatibility issues and the local outlet I bought all my parts at are usually pretty good at telling you if somethings not going to work.
I'm fresh out of ideas and I am frustrated and disappointed.

My old man is in IT (so am I heh) and has always helped me build PC's so I'm going to take it to him tomorrow to see if he can help me out with it. But until then does anyone have any ideas?

No, I pulled it out to get the mother board out then put it back in once the MB was out. Should I try this?

if it a newer intel mb it may be a bios issue. try one ram stick and oneboard video. if it an asus mb with the usb flashback port try putting the newest bios file on it. on the mb check the bios rev of the mb make sure it post with the cpu you have. check the reset and power buttons make sure there not stuck in. and are on the right mb pins. also make sure the 4/8 pin power cable on the mb side is plugged in. also check that the io shield not shorting the mb out.

Thank you for your reply, I have left everything in but took the GPU out and it now boots and I am getting the "no boot media selected" screen which is a good start! I haven't attempted to go past this yet! Now I've got this, I don't think the above is necessary, obviously an issue with the GPU - correct me if I'm wrong though.

@Alexoiu thank you for the suggestion! can't believe I didn't try it sooner.

However, I'm not sure what I need to do now to get the GPU to work properly, any ideas?
I'll see how far I can get now and I'll report back with any other issues or if I've managed to solve it.
