Finally upgraded from SLI 560ti's to the MSI GTX 1080 (I splurged!). Installed the new card and have been stuck with the system not even getting to POST. Only thing displayed is 'B2' in lower right corner...

System:

  • MSI Z68A-GD80
    i5-2500k
    16GB DDR3
Monitor: Samsung 245BW (DVI) <really old, am going to upgrade but the one I want is sold out...

Have tried:

  • Different connections from PSU to GPU
Turning off the MSI mobo's OC Genie
Connecting the system fan to mobo instead of fan controller
Resetting the mobo by removing battery
Different cables to monitor (DVI<>DVI and HDMI<>DVI)
Updating mobo BIOS, but it isn't recognizing the USB file...
Putting old cards back is > still works
Trying just one old card > still works
Running on just the mobo graphics HDMI out > still works

What should I try next...? If I can't figure it out soon I'm going to my buddy's and trying it in his computer. Could the mobo BIOS be incompatible with the new card?

Thanks for any suggestions!

Thanks for your responses! Turns out it was the mobo bios and my first attempts to update were incorrect. The correct bios update process is: to download file from MSI, extract and copy to USB drive, run the file on the USB drive while in Windows, and watch as it installs and cycles through a number of restarts. Once it is successfully installed and after several restarts it will stop at a screen stating 'missing operating system' at which point you will need to go back into bios and change the boot order so the USB isn't first in line, and remove the USB drive. I tried updating from the MSI Live Update app which said the version was current, and within BIOS which didn't recognize the file on the USB drive...
