Should I upgrade my Processor?

Here are my current specs...

Windows 10 64bit

500 watt power supply

Motherboard - MSI A78M- E35

16 GB or ram

AMD A8 7650k (APU)

Gtx 750 TI

liquid cooled ( If that means anything)

Should I upgrade my processor? Looking to spend around $70 - $120. That is for taking the time to reply.:)

Solution
Not worth it to upgrade your CPU. Even if you swapped to an X4 860K and overclocked it, the improvement would be marginal. You would be better off saving the money and upgrading to a Zen or Intel CPU later.

I think you made mistakes with your original build there. The AMD chips which have APUs are for people who wont be using a dedicated GPU such as laptop owners. As you have a GPU you could have got a chip from the AMD FX family instead meaning you would have purchased a far more powerful processor. On top of that 16GB Ram still isn't the gaming standard so if you combine the saving from not doing that and not liquid cooling your A8 then its likely you could have got a top of the range i5 instead.

As your build currently is then depending on how well your CPU overclocks you have the equivalent of a i5-4460. That wont allow you to max out everything but you dont have the graphics card to do that anyway. While not great its okay. It will do for maybe another couple of years before you are forced to upgrade.

I'd say save up for now, Intel have Cannonlake out in the 2nd half of next year. Zen will be out too.

It won't match a Haswell i5 even with overclocking.

To be even with an i5 4430, OP would need to overclock to ~6.5ghz, which is nearly double stock speed.

@OP, there aren't any worthwhile chips to upgrade to with your motherboard. Enjoy what you have until it starts to negatively affect your gaming experience. When that time comes, you'll want to move to Intel's socket 1151.

Well thats bad, he definitely should have gone i5 in that case. Overclocking a weak chip, pairing it with a liquid cooler, is a bit pointless. Extra ram beyond the current standard of 8GB wont counteract that. He should have just got a more powerful chip instead.
