So I'll be upgrading my prebuilt PC soon. The only parts I plan to upgrade are the
CPU
RAM
Mobo
Power supply

I'm keeping the rest of the parts. My current system has an
Fx 6100
Some cheap motherboard
8 gigs of ram
Radeon 7770 (upgrading to a 460 later).
2tb hdd and 120gb ssd
Some no name 400w PSU.

This is what I'm planning on doing, I am a youtuber I game and edit and do a lot of multitasking.

I don't really plan on overclocking so will I still need a cooler? My fx handles multitasking alright, but I'm gonna need my task to be handled a little faster because I'm going to be getting a little bit more busy in these upcoming months.

Ah. That's different. You should be OK. I believe M$ allows up to 3 activations on different machines (m/b's) before it balks.

You can live w/o the 212 EVO if you don't plan on OC;ing. You may have to do a fresh install of Win (7?) since you are changing the m/b. Then do a new activation.
There is a possibilty that the old board and the new board will be close enough that it will struggle its way to the desktop. If so, you will want to install the new board's drivers. Then I'd run something like CCleaner to clean up the mess that the Registry will be in.

please consider an intel build it's not actually more expensive, and it'll perform about the same now (but more manageably), or a lot better with a CPU swap. The intels are a new design the FX's are 4+ years old and were merely OK at launch.

http://pcpartpicker.com/list/38qTJV it's $24 more mostly because of the Z170 board, which if you are never going to OC then you can ditch.

Or this for only 13 more. http://pcpartpicker.com/list/wMQXbj
http://www.anandtech.com/bench/product/697?vs=1646 can't find a 6500.

13thmonkey, I don't really see the point in going with an Intel build for my budget. The fx 8xxx will be able to help me with my multitasking editing and gaming. I don't play super intensive games

Because it's a hot lump of 4 year old rubbish beaten by a mid range intel chip. See the benchmarks above.

Since I won't need a cooler because I'm not overclocking is this alright?

If you mean the product code that M$ requires for Win7 activation, yes. You may have to jump thru some hoops if it is an OEM license. But I have never had it turned down for activating on a different m/b yet.

Oh okay that's good

Look at the benchies: http://www.anandtech.com/bench/product/697?vs=1646&_ga=1.162951353.40728491.1363025293

Virtually the only thing it wins in is zipping and unzipping. cinebench, either intel wins by a lot, or amd by a bit. You'll also want to leverage your GPU for that anyway.

Okay? Dont know how much worth an extra 50+ dollars is. I'm trying to spend under $315ish. If you can get me an Intel build that will beat an fx 8xxx series that also has my other requirements then I'll happily go with that build. And what do you mean by leveraging my gpu?

doesn't your rendering use GPU resources like cuda to accelerate it?

You are moving the goal posts, at 383, it's possible, at 315 not so possible. The intel build you have above is better than your first amd build, it's better than the latest amd build, but is it worth 55 over your new budget? only you can say that.
