So, I have been with Virgin Media for around 3 years and the speed I get is around 200mb download 10mb upload until recently. So my router is in my lounge and the pc in the lounge is connected through ethernet, the speed is fine 200mb download 10mb upload however in my bedroom my pc which is also connected through ethernet is now only getting 10mb download and 0.5mb upload speed. I play a lot of games on steam and I've never had a problem but now my ping spikes all the time from around 20 all the way up to 5k+ someone told me it could be a hardware issue I thought maybe this was the case at first as well, the thing is I have 2 ethernet cables in my bedroom so before anyone says its a faulty ethernet cable what are the chances that both of my ethernet cables have become faulty on the same day at the same time after 3 years without an issue, both ethernet cables get the exact same speed I have brought the laptop from the lounge to my bedroom and that is getting the same speed of around 10mb download & 0.5mb upload when having the ethernet plugged in. However without the ethernet plugged in through wifi I get around 50mb download 5mb upload in my bedroom and in the lounge through wifi about 200mb download 10mb upload on the wifi on the laptop as it should be. I have no idea what is going on I have had no problems in just over 3 years if anyone could help that would be greatly appreciated.

Note. Sometimes very occasionally since this has started happening over the last 2 weeks the internet speed is fine in my bedroom but it is very occasionally usually 1 speed test and then it flies back to 10mb download 0.5mb upload.

If multiple computers, connected to the same cable(s) have the same slow connectivity, you have to look at the parts in common. Patch cables on both ends, port on the router, router config, something that the computers have in common....

The symptoms and circumstances you describe point to a port fault on the router. Try changing cables on the router end and test the ports that way.

I presume you are not simultaneously downloading/streaming from any other machine in your home. Have any rules been set in the router for bandwidth allocation based on MAC address?
