I built this computer, and used the old hard drive from a previous prebuilt one that had Windows 7. I was able to install Windows 7 because it couldn't recover the files that were previously on it (that old prebuilt pc broke a while back" so it reset the disk and installed Windows 7, so a fresh pc. It has been working till today where I've been getting blue screens of death. In The end, I figured I need to reset it. My dad said I couldn't reset it because resetting it would take it to a previous restore point, (none of them work for some reason btw). I tried explaining that resetting completely resets Windows and doesn't take it to a previous restore point. Is this true or is he right? He says it is because of the hard drive thing we did.

This all depends on what "reset" you are talking about, depending on what you have in your head when you say that it can mean anything from just rebooting the computer, to a wipe and re-installation.

If you want to re-install Windows clean on the system, then yes it will wipe the current setup and install a clean Windows copy on the computer. Can't really sort out what you did with the hard drive swap, did you just move it from one computer to another and used it as it is, or did you move the drive then installed Windows clean on it again?

Reset as in deleting everything and re-installing.

Soon as you do a clean setup of Windows on the drive, the restore points in the other installation do not matter, you have a new Windows setup.
