Need to connect internal optical drive, no more sata ports

New motherboard and I find I've got a port problem. I decided to order an extra SSD which fills the last sata port.

I use a DVD/RW maybe 3 times a year, but it is nice to have. I'd rather have it in the tower (there's LOTS of space there) to cut down on clutter. There are no sata ports left, and the MB (Gigabyte GA-Z170X-Designare) has no internal USB, though it has two unused USB2 headers. I can power the drive separately.

What's the simplest (and hopeful cheap) solution?

I was hoping for a USB2 header to Sata converter/controller, but did not see any? Speed is not an issue so long as it can keep up with a cheap DVR.

I think I'm left with the option of adding a PCIe sata adapter with internal ports. The cheap ones get pretty poor reviews (though this one is both cheap and well, if infrequently, reviewed on newegg - SYBA SI-PEX40108). I do worry a bit about dodgy stuff in the PCIe bus and stability.

Is this the simplest approach, or am I missing something that might let me use that USB2 header easily and cheaply with my existing SATA DVD/RW?

If no good USB2 header approach, any recommendation for cheap but reliable internal SATA PCIe x1 (again, speed and raid not an issue as just for DVD/RW)?

Thanks,

Linwood

your best option is the PCI-e sata controller card. These give connectivity you are looking for and the speed required. USB ports are no where near as fast as the PCI-e bus can carry information.

Do some research on them and go from there to choose the one that is right for you.

As mentioned, I'd really rather have something internal to a full tower, as there's lots of space there, and lots of clutter lying around my office otherwise (suggestions to clean up my office are relevant, but not likely, thanks).
