I am building a PC and i decided to insert my parts list on PC Part to check the compatibility of the parts but the compatibility check says that they are not compatible. I am very sure that they are but i do not want to take any risks.
These are my parts:
CPU: i5-6400
CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Neptune 240m
GPU: Saphire+ RX 470 4gb
PSU: Corsair CX Series 500W
RAM: G.Skill Trident Z (2X8) 16gb 3200 DDR4
Motherboard: MSI Z170 Pro Gaming Carbon
Case: NZXT H440 Razer edition
Storage: Plextor Black Edition PCIe SSD 256gb
Monitor: LG 25um65-P

Help me please!!!!

Solution

ooooooh ok i understand. Any suggestions? I am looking for something that is not to expensive. I would like to save some money for the GPU

post the link to your build

crap power supply...

also that case, ram, and cpu cooler are very expensive, why are you sacrificing gpu/cpu for them?

weird choice on ssd as well..

what will you be using this for? very poorly spent ~$1500 IMO

The case, CPU cooler, monitor and ssd are all from a computer store that went bankrupt in my neighbourhood. I got all these parts for just under 250 euros. I read that a PSU over 600 watts would be quite an overkill. I also whent through a power consumption test and found out that my system draws out a mere 380 watts on total. Anything else?

But it's an i5 6400 on a z170 motherboard. I don't get it... :/

i see

it not about the wattage, its about quality

that power supply is meant for office pc's, cheaply made with crap components

Yeah that PSU isn't great but if you got it for quite cheap it'll do decent for now. The motherboard might not like the high speed of the RAM. Besides you don't need 3200 speed ram. Also, MSI boards in general have not great quality control, I would advise an Asus or Gigabyte board instead. Also why a Z170 with locked CPU?

+1 the CX series uses cheap caps, your CPU is extremely unlikely to run 3200 DRAM, even many K models need a CPU OC for 3200 - I'd look to 2133, 2400 maybe 2666

__________

If need be the Trident Z can be downclocked and run with tighter timings, great sticks(have run a few of their sets in my Z170-Hero (in sig)). Any problems give me a shout ;)

>.> no?

hint, certain bios will allow you to overclock the 6400 on a z170

shhhh! <.<

as i said, you can

you missed the whole stink with intel about this???

many mobo makers took advantage of it and had bios that allowed full overclock on "locked" cpu's

No didn't miss it it at all, been there done that. That's why I mentioned the BCLK OC option. There are old versions for many mobos that open things up more. Some have also set multiplier to the max of the turbo boost (3.3) from base of 27, which locks you a little higher and as mentioned, creates more heat. This can lead to failures of the CPU which is why Intel put out the firmware update. Many also did this and went further increasing the BCLK on top of that 9even more heat, leading to component failures). Yes, it can be done, but don't see the sense in the good possibility of frying something as if you fry a component, chances are good you'll fry more than one and turn your new rig into a paperweight

???

you act like there are no good cpu coolers and z170 based mobos MADE for overclocking...

Maybe he did. Doesn't mean we're going to advise it

There are tons of good ones, I work with and play with them daily, that isn't the point. Have you done this?....are you aware of the effects of locking a locked CPU at it's max turboboost and what it does to the CPU that isn't made to OC? Turbo boost is there for rather short periods of use, it's not designed for sustained long term running at max - will a good cooler help, Yes, same with a good mobo, but you won't be able to get away from the heat issue as well as the design of the CPU itself. Then throw in the BCLK which OCs basically everything since it's the mobos base clock.
