Hi everyone

I need urgent help with my HDD.. Removing the power cable (with to much force) resulted in a broken L shape. (see pic)

What should I do? Will connecting it anyway cause a short? There are no gold pins broken or whatsoever, just the L-shape

Thank you!

Solution

You'd have to be very carefull not to do that.

You could also use this kind of adapter (it would make sure that connector is properly placed)

Hey Sam.

The pins really look intact and if you're 100% sure that this is the case, you should be able to connect the drive, however if you decide to do that it's at your own discretion. Basically it should work, but there might be issues like the drive disconnecting or unusual speed drops, freezes etc, if you can't keep the power cable connected firmly. If you connect it and run your computer with it, I'd suggest that you backup your important data to another drive, just to be on the safe side.

Hope that helps.

Hey, thank you for the fast reply. I was also thinking doing this. Just wanted to be sure that nothing could short when booting the pc.

Thank you, I am now just waiting from an answer if I should do it or not from a Data Recovery Center.
