Hi Eryn
I also have a HP Pavilion p7 1010a with a GT 545 card . I am also looking to upgrade my GPU and am interested to know how you went from a previous post with a GTX 750 Ti , did it work ? and how have you gone with the GTX 970 ? . From what I have read on the internet I would need to update my bios to the latest HP update and then the computer will still only run a 600 series card such as a NVidia GTX 670 and I would need a PSU to suit . I would appreciate it if you could let me know if you have had success.

Hey Shaky,
So in the end I went with a 650w corsair psu A gtx 970 and I got a new mobo which was a Asrock B75 Pro3-M.
I couldnt get the latest update to work on the old mobo as it would run the install and then not actually have done anything.
All up this cost me around $320 usd for all second hand parts.
also, If you opt for changing your mobo, you may have to swap out the hp ram, as it doesnt work on a lot of other boards (including the asrock that I got) I luckily had some lying around!

Basically, I was having so many troubles getting that board to accept anything other than stock that i figured it would be easier to just keep my cpu and move away from hp crap :)

hope this help!
