Best Processor for this motherboard...

Hello,

What is the best CPU for gaming that can fit in this motherboard: Asus A55BM-A. At the moment i have an A10 6700, my budget is £100-£200

I do agree with Trafalgar747's suggestion of switching.

I believe an i3 6100 would outperform an x4 880k in most cases. (That GamerNexus link I provided has benchmarks for the i3-6300.)

However, if you do game on an a10-6700 without a GPU; you should see some performance boost (the first paragraph of the article). In fact, if you're not willing to spend a great deal (and want to wait a bit to make a more substantial upgrade); get the GPU and PSU, install them and see what the difference is to your gaming. You might be surprised.

This is the best your motherboard can support, if your using a dedicated graphics card it will make little difference. I advise you spend slightly over your budget and get a new motherboard that can support better processors.

Would i be able to notice the difference replacing my current cpu with this one in fps or wouldn't it be that much better?

I couldn't find benchmarks to compare the two. For some reason the a10-6700 has proven quite difficult to find info on.

In all honesty, I don't think you'll see significant change if you already use a GTX 960, because the iGPU is already disabled. The x4 880k fits between the a10 7870k and the a10 7890k according to this: http://www.gamersnexus.net/hwreviews/2394-amd-athlon-x4-880k-cpu-review-and-benchmark

If there's a substantial increase in performance for those a10s compared to yours, then the 880k will also show likewise.

Im thinking, is it even worth buying a new CPU for this motherboard or should i buy a new motherboard so i am then able to buy a lot better cpu's? Due to the motherboard i have now giving me a limit for what CPU i can buy and they're aren't any that i feel will give me much improvement compared to what i have now using this motherboard or would the X4 880K be a good improvement?

Thanks for the reply and i do not yet have the gtx 960 but i am planning on buying one at the end of this week as well as a new PSU

Thanks alot! and ye that sounds like a good idea, ill wait till i get the gpu and psu and if that then increases the performance alot more ill then keep it until games get more demanding but if not ill switch motherboards and get an i3 or try and treat myself to an i5. :)

Do not get the GTX 960, it's a very poor value. There are cards around the same price that are much faster, and cards that are much cheaper with around the same performance.

I would not upgrade your CPU. You'll only get a few percent improvement. How about try with the new card and see how it performs? And, if you're unhappy, then go with the Core i3 6100?

I'm in the 'states, so I can't help with shopping around, but you might look into seeing if you can get an RX 470 for around that price, or even an RX 460.

That would be great, but im just thinking that wouldn't my CPU bottleneck an RX 470 or 480 really badly?

CPUs don't bottleneck video cards. CPUs limit framerates. Your maximum framerate with a new video card will be the same as with the old, but you'll be able to run at that framerate with much higher graphical settings.
