Internal HDD slow access after Windows 10 upgrade

After recently upgrading my Windows 7 Pro desktop (Dell Optiplex 380) to Windows 10, access to the internal D: drive (a 2T Seagate) is intermittently slow (it was working fine before). I can see and access the drive, but programs accessing files on the drive either hang up/time out or are very slow. For example, I am unable to play back audio files stored on D: without constant - and often extended - dropouts. When trying disk benchmark programs on D:, they either hang up entirely (CrystalDiskMark) or seem to work in spurts (HD Tune Pro), showing intermittent access. Any idea what could be going on?

I had considered this possibility, however accessing files on my C: drive (a 250-GB WD) doesn't appear to be an issue, so am not sure why the second drive is such a problem.

Update: I just booted up in Safe Mode (with networking) and programs are now able to access drive D: without any problems. I'm not entirely sure what to conclude from this.

Update 2: So, based on the results under Safe Mode, I decided to try stopping various Windows services under regular full Windows to see if any of them affected access to the D: drive. Sure enough, one of them - TdmService ("Manages self-encrypting drives") - seems to be the main culprit. Once it's stopped, CrystalDiskMark is finally able to access and test the D: drive without hanging up. So far, based on trying several programs that regularly access files on the D: drive, it looks like this may indeed have been the source of the problem.

I'm having the exact same problem at the moment, also with a seagate 2TB, after a windows 10 upgrade. Disk speed almost always at 100% even when Windows only reports a few KB's (I don't trust windows monitoring at all). It takes ages to do anything on it.
I don't have a TDMService to disable but I'm going through stopping what I can to see if I can get it sorted..

Do you have anymore updates on this? Is your drive still running fine?
