I'm doing a budget build and I'm deciding between a gtx 9800 and a hd 6850. The gtx 9800 is 10$ and the hd 6850 is 30$, I'm looking to do light gaming at 1280x720. Another question will 4gb of ddr2 677mhz do the trick for light gaming?

For those, definitely the 6850, you'll get smooth 60fps in most cases (assuming your CPU is a pentium D 3.0gh+ at least. 9800 should also work, though you might not be able to max out bioshock (not exactly the best programmed game out there)
You mean a junk build right? In any case, stick with the (absolute garbage) of a 6850 if you want to play anything worthwhile.

You will NOT be able to run games newer than ~2012 with that setup, DDR2 means you're using a circa 2006 processor, nowhere near enough for anything from this decade even at that resolution

First off for the Ram, you should be able to get away with 4gb. I've read articles saying that you truly only need 4gb of RAM and that any more only gives a minor speed boost. As for the gpu, whats your built in graphics? The 6850 is a great card if you can find it for that price, but otherwise for 30$ you usually can't beat onboard graphics these days.

My mum plays wow with a 8800GTX 1gb, the 9800 is a bit better. She has no lag at all on medium graphics. If you can get 8gb ram and an SSD you will be fine unless you want to play modern games at anything past the minimum graphics.
