Hey all,

My friend made a new build, here are some of the specs:

CPU: Intel Core i5-6500
http://ark.intel.com/products/88184/Intel-Core-i5-6500-Processor-6M-Cache-up-to-3_60-GHz

MoBo: Gigabyte GA-Z170-HD3P
http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=5495#ov

Memory: Kingston HyperX Fury Black 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-2133 Memory
https://www.kingston.com/datasheets/HX421C14FBK2_16.pdf

OS: Windows 7

First of all, the memory slots are strange for this board. On most boards the slots are numbers CPU-1-2-3-4, where you would either slot 1/3 or 2/4 for dual channel. On this board, the manual lists the slots as CPU-4-2-3-1.

Under Memory installation, the manual says the proper installation for dual channel memory is 1/2 or 3/4, and each pair shares the same color. However, the CPU will not post and endlessly boot when trying the sticks in these slot pairs. However, the computer DOES post when the sticks are in 2/4 (which means side by side, right next to the CPU). However, even though this is the only position it posts in, CPU-Z is displaying the memory is running in single channel and not dual-channel. It reports the following:

Type: DDR4
Size: 16GBytes
Channel #: Single
NB Frequency: 3198.4 MHz

DRAM Frequency: 1066.2 MHz
FSB : DRAM - 1 : 16

Ranks: Dual
XMP: 2.0

Here is a link to the MoBo manual for reference: http://download.gigabyte.eu/FileList/Manual/mb_manual_ga-z170-hd3p_e.pdf

Updated BIOS and problem still persists. Anything we're missing? If not, which part is most likely to be defective? Thanks in advance!

ok, i think i know, did you buy 2 separate ram sticks or did you buy a ram kit. because Sometimes 2 different ram kits wont run in dual channel due to manufacturing compatibility issues
