Hey there guys. Just wondering about this I've recently noticed. At night before I go to bed I usually turn off my PC, then get down and turn off surge protector before I go to sleep. I noticed last night before bed however, a slight barely audible buzz/ring-like noise coming from my PSU. The unit in question is an EVGA SuperNova 650w P2 platinum 80+ unit. Truth be told I only heard or noticed the noise when my pen dropped between the desk and PC and I had to reach in between to get it, it's so quiet I even question if it is even there, haha. But I've definitely heard something at least twice when checking for it when it's off. It's not an intermittent noise either. If there's any noise pollution I can't hear it at all, but when it's quiet whatever I'm hearing is a constant noise. Doing some research I've found countless comments about PSUs in general (not mine specifically) making noises sometimes when off and plugged in, connected to power, and lots of comments that say it's just an oscillating transformer or coil inside that is potentially makin the noise, and lots that say impending doom is near if you hear anything! I trust you guys on this board a ton, so I hope you can offer some clarity of peace of mind;

Should I worry at all about this since I heard anything at all, or is this just normal? I've had this PC for a few months and I absolutely love it and would hate to have a dangerous/faulty part on my hands. Thank you sincerely to any and all whom respond.

If there is no specific option in the BIOS, enable ErP under power management. This will disable the following: PME Event Wake Up, Power On By Mouse, Power On By Keyboard, and Wake On LAN.
Basically the PC will be fully shot down and will only turn on from the power button. I aways enable it as i don't like my peripherals with leds staying lit.

My LEDs don't stay lit. The computer is completely turned off before I turn my surge protector off, and the only way to turn it back on is the power button as well. Might it make that noise anyway?

ErP may be disable regardless. Enable it and see then if there is any noise. There shouldn't be.

Haven't beenable to try because I'm still at work- but assuming I do enable that and I'm still hearing that barely audible whine from my PSU, is it indicative of future failure/component failure?

No. It's a phenomenon called coil-whine and is pretty much pervasive on some level or another with electronics.

Home now but can't seem to find the option in my BIOS, or in power settings on Control Center? On windows 10 if it helps.

Look in teh BIOS under power management. If you tell me your MB model, i can help.
