Sorry for the length, but I'm clueless as to what's going on so I'm attempting to give relevant details. For the past two years my DVD RW discs have been working great with my laptop disc drive.
About two weeks ago, I attempted to copy and paste more files than usual. It worked, but I noticed my disc was acting strange immediately after, in that it took forever to even load thumbnails for any pictures.
Day later, I was going to work on it some more, but when I put it in the disc was "read only" (files were still there).
So I put in a fresh DVD, selected USB like usual, and copied/pasted files - only for my disc drive to (apparently) physically malfunction during the process. It was at "Pasting files - 0%" and the disc drive kept making loading sounds.
I was able to cancel the process and remove the disc, but when I went to put in the disc again, my drive no longer works. It opens and closes but doesn't register anything.
So I bought an external USB disc drive. I attempted to copy/paste files to a fresh disc, and the disc became read-only. I tried another disc, moved some files, and it worked just fine. Then I tried another, and it became read-only during the process.
I have no idea what is going on, and how to resolve this. Since this "read-only" happened for my laptop disc drive AND my external USB drive, I am thinking there is something wrong with my
laptop, and the way it interprets discs. Do any of you have any leads?
