Hello. I was playing overwatch today when the voice server went down (they were doing work on the server) my team an I were looking for a teamspeak server so we could continue playing. I found a server on the teamspeak server list called gaming something. No one was in it however the channel in the server was called "Thanks for the IP".

I realize this maybe just a troll, however I was just curious as to how easy an IP was to get and what exactly someone could do if they did get my IP. Thanks

most people have a dynamic ip address anyway on residential internet plans. In a few weeks you will probably have a new ip address, you could feasibly ask your ISP if they are willing to renew it early, or you could see if powercycling your modem changes it (keep modem off for a few minutes so connection times out). But as said above, unlikely they could do anything useful considering the chances anyone who would have that would care enough to put the effort in to try anything or even know enough to do so is pretty insignificant.
If you are running server processes/open ports for services hosted inside your network you are slightly more vulnerable.
They can't do much as long as you have a router. Because the NAT is really stupid it does not know where to send data coming in from the outside so it throws it away. This is the issue you see all the time people asking how to do port mapping. If you do not have port mapping and you do not have dmz nothing will get into your internal network.

Now they might be able to overload the router itself with certain invalid packets but most routers have very basic firewalls that understand some of the common attacks.

They could also try to exceed your bandwidth but that generally is not something they can do from their house. They in most cases will hit their upload rate well before they hit your download rate. What can be done is rent bot nets so that they use the upload rates of many machines. Botnets are not easy to create so pretty much you must pay quite a bit to use them. So someone that hates you enough to spend money to attack you could cause problem....until they run out of money.
