I recently installed Crystal Disk Info on a hard disk that was riddled with bad sectors.
Crystal Disk Info was installed for 1 hour and all the time it reported that the drive was in good
health.

Is a HDD monitoring tool like this only suitable for monitoring over a couple of day because it's result was sure as hell misleading?

CDI reads the smart status from the drive. It does not have to run over time(the drive will always hold this data).

It could just be that you had a drive that was on the edge.

Can you post a screen. I am interested in seeing the attributes that are being flagged.

How was it determined that the hard disk was already "riddled with bad sectors"?

Lots of products out there that stretch the facts to intice you to buy a product to fix something that may actually not be broken.

Are you sure that you downloaded the real application? I am asking because there are many websites out there that deliberately try to trick you into downloading and installing something else. They will mis-represent anything to do that. Not sure that I even trust the direct manufacturer websites anymore.....

How big was the hard disk? Was the entire disk checked or maybe just one partition?

Maybe the download was an older, buggy, pirated version.... Or just a poorly designed and written application to begin with.

The answer requires a bit more digging about and back tracking.

In anycase, uninstall it, and look for other options.

I agree with scout_03. If you are going to try other software to run a test, It would be best to use the software from the drive maker. Please do NOT right ZEROs/low level format/ect to a drive as that will erase it. Most of the diagnostic software allows it so keep an eye out. You will be after short and long tests.

CDI does not actually run tests it just reports smart status and other drive info.
