2nd Gaming PC Build!

Hello, all! So I built my first gaming custom rig back in the early days of 2012. It's running a i5-2500k CPU and a EVTA 560ti - 448 cores GPU. I love this thing and it's still a beast. However, I can see where it's starting to lack the power where I want it. So I ran through PC parts picker and set up a new rig that should hopefully hold me over for about 5 years. I say 5 years because I feel that I could take the one I'm currently using into 2017, making the total time I've used it at 5 years.

Here's the build list: http://pcpartpicker.com/list/9r4K3F

Let me know what you think! I mostly have questions about the GPU, the SSD, the case, and a monitor. I don't have a monitor included in the list as I don't know what I would want to go with. I don't know much about SSD's, so any info there would be greatly appreciated. I feel like a 1080 might be over kill, but seeing how I want it to last for a while, do you think that this is a good spot to be in or should I grab something like a 1070 or a 980 Ti? As far as the case goes, I'm using a CoolerMaster 932 HAF. I love this case and the way it looks, so I went for the HAF-X case in the list. However, if someone has any recommendations as to what case I should go with, please say so! In a case I'm mostly looking for potential water cooling, but not at the start of it;a good rugged military/machine look, and plenty of room to work in (full tower master race)!

Thanks for all the help everyone! I really can't wait to read your responses!

Sorry about that! I wasn't sure how to put the whole list in the reply instead of just linking it. Here's the build. I still can't decide on what case I want to use. I feel like if I want to use the 932 HAF I might as well just take apart my current build and throw the new one in my old case and I really don't want to do that, haha. The 750 seems like a pretty popular case. I might go with it.

There. With G-Sync. I downgraded to a 1070. It will do for 1440p and the 1080 is just not that much more card to justify its price premium.

EDIT: Also, that PSu is a bit too much unless you intend to SLI. Consider going for a 650W G2.

Thank you for that build, Hlsgsz. Do you think that the 1070 is the for sure way to go? I'm really looking for something to last me for 5 years, at the most. I don't think I would be interested in going to 4k res and a friend of mine showed me his PC running at 1440p and I think it looked great.

A lot of the comparison videos seemed to show the 980ti to be comparable to the 1070. Would getting a 1070 hold me over for the time I'm hoping for or would moving to a 1080 seal the deal?

As for the PSU, I feel that I might go for an SLI set up in a year or two, but I've never done it before. Would a 850 be plenty of power or should I go a bit higher?

Also, do you have any recommendations as far as cases go? I love my 932 HAF, but if I can get a different one I would prefer that. However, I don't know if I can find a case that can appeal to me as much as the 932.

Your link doesn't work, and shows that 'Your cart is empty' ^^

You can't share a shopping cart like that. Build it in pcpartpicker if you want us to veto it.
You have the right idea about resolution. 4k is overrated and it's not quite time for it yet. 1440p is definitely the way to go. And yes, a 1070 would be the way to go for that and it will serve you well for quite some time. Exactly how much time that is is, i would say, subjective. Only you can say what settings and framerates you are willing to go for when the GPU shows it's age.
As for SLI, i figured you had that in mind, which is why i left that 850W PSU in the build. Even 750W would do, but it's good to have some headroom.

Yeah dude, only thing I would even look at would be the wattage of the PSU, which you've already said something about future SLI (still more than enough Wattage anyway.) Other than that only possible thing I could think of changing would be for an 500GB*ish* SSD, 'cos I'm lazy and don't like to transfer over data to my storage drives. 250GB is more than enough for boot and games / programs though :p
I'm all about the fractal define series for cases these days

Lock that sucker in and enjoy!

All good, obviously.
Don't forget about a G-Sync monitor.

Yeah, I'll definitely get a monitor with G-Sync, but I don't really know much about it so I'll save that for a month or 2 down the line.

Is there anything about the build that I might want to change? Like the CPU or Motherboard? I really love ASUS Mobos. I'm using a Gene-Z micro-atx atm and it's amazing.

As for the SSD, all I really want on it now is my OS (Win10) and League of Legends for really quick load times. All my other games and software can go onto the HDD and still boot fast enough. Should I reduce the SSD or keep it as is? I can always get another down the line.

Also, do you think the i7-6700k is too much? Would the i5-6600k be a better deal for what I want? I'm currently using an i5-2500k and I love it. It works perfectly, but I'm not really sure if the extra cores from the i7 would be better for gaming. I was looking at some benchmark videos and it seems during Physics processing the i7 destroys the i5. Would this be ideal for games like Battlefield or games with a lot of stuff going on like RTS games?
