I recently moved to college and found out that they don't use Ethernet ports. I know almost nothing about WLAN cards as I have always used Ethernet. I was wondering if someone could help me find a WLAN card. My motherboard is the ASUS H971-Plus.

There are so many cards it is hard to say. You do not want to buy really fancy expensive ones if the wireless routers where you are do not have the same features. You need to find out things like if the router is dual band or if it support 802.11ac.

On that board if I see it correctly it only has a single slot for pcie type of cards. I am assuming you have a video card in that slot?

You may be better off looking at USB nic cards. You want to avoid the really tiny devices and try to stay with major brands there is a lot of direct import stuff from china you get poor support on. Lots of devices stopped working when microsoft put out the latest patch and the vendor has not supplied any firmware upgrades.
