Computer shuts down and will not turn back on

The first few times this issue has happened was on the 7th and 17th of August. The first it happened my computer shut down and restarted itself over and over, only after a couple of hours it booted back up normally and worked until the 17th. On the 17th my computer shut down again but this time it wouldn't even turn back on.

I've tried bringing it to NCIX for a diagnostic and repair and the tech guy told me that every part passed the tests and that the temps on everything was fine. He left my computer on for 2 days straight to see if it would shut down but it did not.

I bring my computer home and the first time I try to turn my computer on the same thing happens, it turns on and doesn't boot then shuts down and I can't turn it on. The strangest part is that it will turn back on if I plug it into different outlets on my surge protector but the same thing will happen, it will turn on then back off and I won't be able to turn it on again until I've replugged it.

I've tried the paperclip test on the PSU and it turns on fine and I can see the fan running.

EDIT: Okay, I've replaced the motherboard and processor and I am also using a different case and a different power cord. The same issue still happens, try to turn it on and it turns itself off and won't turn on again.

This leads to me to think this has to be a PSU issue. It has got to be a PSU issue. I think I've tried everything else.

My specs are the following: Kingston HyperX Fury 16GB Kit (2x8GB) 1866MHz DDR3
EVGA GeForce GTX 970 Superclocked ACX 2.0 4GB GDDR5 256bit
Intel Core i7 3770 Quad Core 3.4GHZ Ivy Bridge 8MB Retail
Coolermaster V750 - 750W compact 80 plus gold
Gigabyte B75M-D3H mATX LGA1155 B75 DDR3 2PCI-E16 2PCI HDMI CrossFireX SATA3 USB3.0 Motherboard
Windows 10 64 bit anniversary update

Either the tech guy was lazy and didn't actually run it for more than 10 minutes or you have something strange going on. Sounds to me like your power supply is getting tripped randomly. That or the motherboard is getting tripped, possible something is shorting it.

I would first try a diffrent outlet not on your surge protector, than if that doesn't work unplug all the cables and re-plug them in 1 at the time to make sure they are secure. Past that I don't have many idea since you said it still trip on a different outlet on the surge protector.

Thanks for the reply, the tech guy told me that he left my computer on for at least 2 days straight and he used software to keep track of my computer's up time. I've also tried plugging it directly into the wall outlet and the same thing happens.

By cables what do you exactly mean?

I mean internal cables. But if I continue to believe this tech guy, I can't see how reseating all the cables will make any difference. So I am out of ideas. the computer turning off and staying off is differently a sign that something is being tripped. Since the paper clip worked, than your PSU isn't being tripped (it wouldn't run the fan), That leads me to believe its your motherboard since it will stay off as safety feature if a contact is detected to prevent damage. Only when it loses power from changing outlet does it release the safety.

Still don't see how the tech guy could run it for 2 days without any issues and you get home and right away have the some problem.

Yeah this is what is stumping me the most at the moment, when I got there to pick up my pc it was turned on for well over 20 minutes but the very first attempt I try to boot up my computer at home it doesn't work the same problem occurs for me.

I'm out of ideas as well, seriously where do I even go from here? Do I just replace the psu, motherboard, and processor?

Yes I have, I've tried different outlets and different surge protectors. I've plugged directly into two separate wall outlets.

Yes, doing the paperclip test shows that the psu works, the fan is running and I can hear it. When I try to turn on the computer nothing happens, it doesn't turn on. The only time it turns on is when I re-plug it but then it turns on and shuts down after getting to the windows logo. Somebody earlier in the thread said the reason for that is because of a safety feature in motherboards where it turns the computer off to prevent damage and then it won't let me turn on the computer till I re-plug it which resets the safety feature.

Maybe try a different room? I know its a hassle but that is the last idea I have. Nothing could have changed from the shop to home.

Have you tried turning on the computer without anything attached besides a monitor cable?. maybe one of the USB ports is causing not to turn on because its being shorted. Just another thought.

If it does work in another room, it wouldn't be a feasible option for me, I would have to exchange rooms with somebody. I haven't tried turning on my computer without anything, I admit I was a bit lazy and frustrated.

I ordered a new processor and motherboard that is on the way now. I've already taken a part my computer. The things I have connected to my computer is my keyboard, mouse, headset, and the monitor. Is it possible one of these things in shorting out something?

Yes it could, if a USB ports is shorting the board it will not turn on. The guy at the shop probably used different ports. Just a thought.

Since you took it apart now, there is no way to test this. But its hunch since it points towards your motherboard and nothing changed from the shop to your house. Leads me to conclude (without being their) that the board is being shorted by something external, aka a USB device.

This would answer a lot of questions especially the most confusing one where the tech guy could turn on my computer with no issue.

So does this mean one of the devices is faulty/broken? I remembered last night I actually did try turning it on without the monitor plugged in, does that mean the monitor is not the problem? I am also using the same mouse that I use on my desktop on my laptop at the moment. Does this narrow it down to just the keyboard and headset?

The monitor wouldn't short it out since it connects to a video port. It would have to have serious grounding issues to cause a problem like an exposed cable touching a live wire, so i highly doubt that is the issue. It could be that the motherboard just has a bad port cause the short or its is narrowed down the keyboard or headset. This is all theory since you cannot test it anymore.

I can test headset and mouse on my laptop to see if it causes issues, that would rule it out. A few other people told me it could be the plug for the power supply like it could be bad, I'll try another plug as soon as I get my new parts. My new motherboard should sort out these issues and if I still have them then it's probably the power supply itself.

Regardless thank you for all the help so far, answered a lot of questions I've had so far. I'll update as soon as I get my new parts and assemble my PC. If I run into the same issue then it has to be a power supply problem.

Hmm, quick question, I've just discovered that I hear a buzzing noise in my A40 headset whenever I have it plugged in to the outlets that are in my room and that the buzzing noise only goes away when I disconnect the connection between the outlet and my headset.

I've tried the rest of the troubleshooting methods from Astro and the only one that gets rid of the buzzing is unplugging my headset from the outlets in my room. Could this be an electrical problem all along instead of my computer? My headset was buzzing the first time this happened to my desktop as well but I didn't mention anything because I didn't think much of it.
