Hey guys,

So I have a choice in between brand new GTX 980 Ti Hybrid or 1060 OC edition (both same price), not sure what brand though, which one I should get? I don't really care about power consumption, seriously, that will be my last spec to look, but which one is better for next few years?
Which one to get, old school top of the line GPU or brand new, packed with new technologies but entry level GPU?

My current rig:
Fractal Design Nano S
Gigabyte Z170n Gaming 5 mini ITX mobo
Corsair Dominator Platinum DDR4 32Gb OC @3200mhz
Intel i7 6700k OC @4.6Ghz
Corsair H115i CPU cooler
and my current GPU XFX R7 370 4Gb
and SFX-L PSU 500watt which is about to be replaced with Corsair RM750 series PSU

I'm not planning to play over 1080, maybe later I can get 2k or 4k monitor, but that is not going to happen for next year for sure. I want to play 1080 Ultra at least 50-60 fps.

ya well sli I would recommend a grand [1000w] to be good a 850w at bare min. and it better be a good solid 850w I do also feel sli anything less would be a bit much

overkill only can help not hinder as a under kill card or one that's just good enough with overkill you all ways got plenty not wishing you had more when the time comes and rebuying

on that cards poewer thing [example ] figure a card peaks 300w that's 25 amps per card if it draws that at anytime sli 2 50 amps then add the rest of your peak system a 850w psu is 70 amps so in sli that just leaves you 20 amps for everything else to run off of

Question: What are the prices of the cards? I find it very surprising that a 980 Ti, especially a hybrid edition, can be bought for the same price as a GTX 1060. Also, your Silverstone SX500-LG has small dimensions. Are you sure the length of the Corsair will fit with your components in a Design Nano S case? Personally I would go with the EVGA G2 650, which is only 6.50" long, versus the Corsair's 7.09" length ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817438054&ignorebbr=1 ).

If the 980 Ti Hybrid was as much money as I've seen online, I'd opt for the GTX 1070 instead. But it all depends on what you can get the 980 Ti hybrid and GTX 1060 for.

For 1080p Gaming @60Hz GTX980Ti is better than the GTX1060. If you can get a 980Ti brand new around 250-350USD go for it. It will outperform the GTX1060 at 300USD

PS: Dont take the 3Gb Vram version of GTX 1060 at around 220USD it is cheaper but it is not worth the money

For 1080p gaming @60Hz GTX1070 is overkill i think. It is more designed for 1440p gaming. On the other hand the GTX 1060 could be a bit too weak for perfect 1080p gaming.

Go for 980Ti brand new cheaper than GTX1070 and a bit more expensive than GTX1060 but with better performances.

no , it runs cooler , and needs less power supply , and when you SLI is a huge deal ... 300Watt VS 500 Watts for the 2 cards ...

Oh ok got it! He said he wanted to buy a Corair RM750 so it should not be an issue at all. Even for an SLI of 980Ti do you need more than 750W?

GTX 980 Ti needs around 700 watts so it will stress the pwersupply alot .

Besides the heat generated is not worth it , GTX 1070 will run cooler .

well as they say that's what ''YOU'' think may not be what some one else thinks , right ??

thing is what you get a bit ''overkill'' today maybe just right tomorrow or any future needs like a hot new demanding game and find your glad you went ''overkill'' not looking for another better card ??

WHAT ?? you got to be off your rocker peak wattage draw is like 270w get your facts straight . at top most a 25amp draw per card

in the end its totalsystem draw so lets say 300w for the card at 25 amps 9 amps for the cpu [intel 85w ] lets say 20 amps for the rest that's just 55 amps and that's a 650w psu for the whole system at peak

I was talking about GTX 980 Ti in SLI read again from the beginning.

This results in a very high no-game power-consumption reading that can typically only be reached with stress-testing applications. We report the highest single reading after a short startup period. Initial bursts during startup are not included as they are too short to be relevant

bottom line is get the best you can afford that's all there is to it

I would wait it out a bit more to see what pops up around thanks giving black Friday the good stuff may release then over whats out today like a bas but 1090 ti with hybrid cooling or just better inventory and card selection ?

rteason I got the 980ti hybrid is is has better support for my needs over the 10 series like I still needed native on the card analog support [dvi-I ] for one

just to add with a nice overclock this 980ti hybrid I run only got to 48c max temp pounding on it 22c idle [that's nice ]

Since you are using a Gigabyte Z170n-Gaming 5 mini ITX mobo then SLI is not an option. Go with the GTX 1060 6GB instead and OC it to 2000+MHz. Better support down the road since it is a newer card. Oc'd GTX 1060 performs near 980TI performance in some games anyway @1080p.

don't forget that's a reference 980ti [most times that's what used in reviews not any aftermarket cards like compaired to a 980ti classified os something over reference ] compared to still thing if going 10 series just save up for atleast a 1070 that's the big gain jump between cards

https://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/NVIDIA/GeForce_GTX_1060/9.html

now look at the 980ti scores in the same games

https://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/MSI/GTX_980_Ti_Lightning/7.html

wow not close to whats listed in the 1060 review now is it ?? SALE HYPE / misleading [see what I mean ? ]

you got to look at all this hype with a grain of salt
