Im looking to build gaming pc and came across a guy that recommends getting a i3-6100 instead of i7-6700k. The price is a huge difference, however I guess that means that the 6700 is much better because of that?

If you plan on using your pc mainly for games, then a i5 will be enough almost everytime. A i7 would be only recommendable if you chose to also edit or record on your pc or basically anything that demands a lot of power from your cpu. The new i3 6100 can also be used for gaming and it achieves pretty decent results so i´d recommend you to go with the i3 rather than an i7 since you´d only pay for perfomance you cant completely use
