good day hope someone can help me with my problem
i read many articles about this about so far no luck
can someone help me to fix my problem..

details about my wd 1tb my passport

wdbbep0010bbk-01

here is the story:
yesterday while transferring some download xbox 360 games my computer shut off because i accidentally unplug the plug. after i on my pc and it say that i should "scan fix restore" the hard drive.. then i clicked yes.. then after that my computer freezes and i waited for a very long time hoping it would work again.. sadly none.. then i unplug the pc and turn it on again..

after that.. my wd passport 1tb cannot be recognize by the computer anymore.. i looked in the device management it still detects it.. and in disk management it says "disk 1 unknown not initialize" tried to initialize but it says an error "hardware malfunction" ..

i tried in cmd using diskpart

disk part
list disk
select disk 1
clean
create partition primary
(error due to hardware malfunction)

sometimes it would recognize my hard drive but i can successfully create a partition but in disk management i need to change path to my raw hard drive then after i put a letter on the hard drive my computer is not responding..

i would like to ask if there still a chance that i could fix this problem

and i looked in the youtube and i saw this one here is the link

can i do this one? he just replace the board?
can i do this with any 2.5" laptop hard drive?

thank you

Hi there andrew_177,

Sorry that you are facing some issues with your WD drive.
Unfortunately, it seems that the drive has failed/is failing.

Do you have important data stored on the drive? Is the drive under warranty?

I believe you can do a couple of simple things as just attaching the drive to another port(or even computer) with a different USB cable.
Also, you can try to access the drive with some data recovery tool. There are many threads on data recovery in the forum. You can even check if the drive would be accessible under Ubuntu. Just boot(don't install it) from a flash drive or a CD, navigate to the drive and see whether you will be able to transfer it.

In case the drive is not accessible with software tool, you can:
- Contact a data recovery company, in case the data stored on the drive is really important. You can check WD's data Recovery Partners out: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=pXTiru
- RMA the drive if it is under warranty. You can contact the place you got it from or WD's Support: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=pVVnvC

I can't really see a link, but as you've mentioned board, then I would say that this is not recommended, as it would most probably not work. Some of the reasons are:
- The device features hardware encryption.
- The device could have proprietary connectors.
- If the drive is failing, changing the board would not help.
- Would void warranty.

Let me know in case you have some more questions,
D_Know_WD :)

sadly i already accept that my files were gone.. right now i 'm only hoping if i can still use the hard drive..
my hard drive is less than a year then working fine (until it just corrupt then now can't use it anymore)
never been bump or fall..
don't really much in warranties because we bought it in bestbuy in US and my mom ship it here in the philippines..
and in warranties it would charge me more or same price if i buy a new one..

the title of the youtube video is "My Passport Western Digital | External HDD Repair | Hard Drive replacement "

link : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z2a6dkAZ6xY ...

he just change the board of the defective drive to the newone..
and i read some topics, it can be done just to see to it that both drives uses same board..

my plan here is to know which is falling the board or the drive it self..
if the drive is failing i will just buy a new WD 2.5" hard drive (regular one) then transfer the portable 1tb wd board to my new 2.5" hard disk
and by that i have a working portable wd 1tb..

if only the board is failing then i just replace the board and making it a regular (internal hard drive for my desktop or laptop..

can anyone help me if there is a way to know which is failing board or the hard drive it self..
cause maybe i can still reuse the okay part...

again don't care about voiding the warranty..
thanks
