What type of SATA is supported by the Pioneer DVR-221BK dvd drive?

I have been having issues where the bit you put the disc in won't open when the disc drive is connected with a SATA data cable to the motherboard (I have tried cables for SATA one, two and three) and i'm wondering if it has anything to do with the SATA type on the disc drive. My motherboard is an MSI 990fxa gaming series, which is supported by SATA 3 if that helps at all.

Solution
Could be a defective device. That suggests a possible short condition with the SATA data connector (since you have swapped cables and ports).

Have you tried using a different SATA cable and a different power connection from the PSU? It sounds like the kind of thing that might happen if there's a bad connection in one of the cables.

To answer your query directly, though, the drive is most likely SATA 1.5Gbps ("SATA 1"); it shouldn't make any difference, though, as SATA ports are backward-compatible. I doubt there are any optical drives with higher link speeds as it's unnecessary for the relatively low data rates they require.

Yeah i did, the bit you put the disk in does open, but only when there is no data connector plugged in

I had already done both of those and it didn't help, but thanks for the info on the SATA type =)
