I am wondering if I can get your opinions. Here is the story. I have a H170 pro gaming motherboard. I have an i5 6600 cpu and 16 gb of ram. I build the computer and after a month I decided to upgrade to 750 watt power supply. I installed the psu and then went to go turn it on, it did not turn on. So I tested it and it tested fine on my psu tester. So then I thought maybe the amp is bad. I then installed my old own that I know works and the computer did not turn on. So I knew the 750 psu works. I then put just the psu 24 and 8 pin connector in. I put the cpu and the cpu fan in. I then put in my ram. That is all. I also just hooked up the power switch and went to go turn it on and nothing happened. I then connected all the other switch wires like hdd led and stuff like that. Same thing happened. So I called up asus and they said it is still under warranty. So I sent it to them. I got it back and still does not work. They said they did do some repairs on it and I even saw they sent me a different cpu cover too. I made sure it was the same board and it was. I sent it in 3 more times after that. So now I am about to send it in for the fifth time. They sent me shipping labels every time except the first. That is fine. I checked my standoffs but there all in place like the orginally were. So can't be standoff. I tried removing the bios battery and that did not work. I tried to cross the leads with a screw driver and that did not work. What happened is I see the lights on the board show up but when I hit the switch, nothing happens. The fan doesn't spin, nothing. This happens every time. This has been going on for 2 months. Do you guys think I should keep fighting after sending it in the 5th time? They said they have tested it and it works fine for them. I doubt that. Keep fighting or accept lost? What are your experiences with asus repair? I have looked at the cpu socket to make sure no bent pins and found nothing. I tried bread boarding, nothing. What should I check or do?

Well to answer your original question, whether to fight or take a loss, that's up to you. You could plead your case, which both you and them should have documented, if they are only willing...

And they sent the same one back?
Still, I highly doubt this is a motherboard issue.

I checked the psu, I have 2 of them. Both did not make it work, so can't be psu. How repair works is that I send in the motherboard, they try to fix it, then once it is fixed, they send it back to me. What else could it be that I haven't covered?

And you are certain that you plugged the power switch into the correct header pins? sometimes it's easy to get that messed up...are the leads going right to the MB or are they plugging into a block then that block to the MB?

So when you hit the switch, all the lights stay lit up? they don't dim or turn off at all? no fans try to turn, no noises at all?

Everything is pretty much new and worked before the psu install. So it is not the cables, I know that 100%. I tried taking out the ram but still nothing. I tried my other ram set and nothing. I have the motherboard book at came with the motherboard when I brought it. I am sure the pins are correct. I followed what the book said. I even tried it both ways so that the writing is facing the cpu and not facing the cpu, still no go. The lights light up and dim. What does diming have to do with it? The lights never turn off. No noises what so ever.

Well to answer your original question, whether to fight or take a loss, that's up to you. You could plead your case, which both you and them should have documented, if they are only willing to 'fix' the problem, suggest a trade-in to upgrade to a different model, they might go for that. I did that with a video card once, it was almost a month out of warranty, but they bent the rules and let me. It doesn't hurt to ask.

But as far as troubleshooting what you have going on now, seems like some sort of power issue. You said the standoffs were good, so no shorting out there. PSU was tested and you also said that was good, so we'll take that out of the equation. Cables you claim are good, so same thing. THEY claim the MB is good...really all that leaves is your switch. Have you tried jumping a wire on the switch pins...or hooking up a different switch? That would verify if the switch is good or not

I know it might sound redundant, but double & triple check every connection for power, make sure it is seated good and in the right places.

I want to take this time to say I am sorry. It was the power supply I think. This is what I think happened. When I put in the upgraded 750 watt psu, I blew the motherboard and the psu. So when I tested to see if it was a power supply issue, I tested it with my other psu the 650 watt. Nothing happened. So I sent in the board and they got it fixed. So when I put it back in, I thought the other psu was fine because the motherboard did not work with the other psu. So I assumed every time that the psu is good. After the third time, they said they did some repairs on it which I could clearly see cause the cover was changed. So I assumed good psu, still no go of course. The led lights showed on the board with the bad psu, but the switch led light did not show, so I thought that is the part of the board that is bad. So this time, I got mad and decided to just get the other psu the 650 watt and confirm, I was sarcastic like oh it won't work because the other psu is "good." Once I connected the old psu it worked, the fans kept spinning. I am going to put the old one back in tomorrow and make sure it works with that installed. Then I am going to call and cancel the rma. I never thought I blew both the motherboard and psu. I had an anti static strap on, how can this happen? Well, I gotta admit, I learned something today. XD. I just wished I tested it last time after they did the major repairs. I seriously wonder what is wrong with the 750 watt psu though. I am going to have to open that one up and see what is going on. It is not under warranted now, so I got nothing to lose with that psu. Just wow, I am shocked.

That was a very entertaining video. Now the real reason you put it up was to tell me it is a waste of time to work on that psu. However, I got time, so that is not issue. You are probably worried about the volts hurting me or something. I know the psu holds some of the biggest capacitors in a computer. I know they are dangerous, but if I give it 2 days to discharge and I will wear an anti static strap, I will be fine. I have opened psu's before. 50% of the time, it is a dead capacitor. It cost $.10 in parts, I can afford a dime. I got nothing to lose since it is not covered under warranted any more. I am not even for sure if this psu is bad anyways, I forgot to tell you this but I notice when I put the cable in the 24 pin, it seemed like it wasn't in all the way. When I put the 650 one in, it was diffidently in all the way. So I am going to find another computer or take it to a shop for them to test out my psu to make sure it is dead before I open it. It is ok dude, not my first rodeo opening psu's. I will not open it until I know for sure that it is dead and I will wait 2 days just to make you feel good even though it doesn't matter if I have an anti static strap.
