SOLUTION FOR OTHERS: Drivers required a COMPLETE re-install.

Please use DDU to un-install the graphics drivers entirely and then re-install GeForce Experience. I've never had this with any other graphics card but maybe the 1070 is a one off.

-------------------

Hey guys, today I recently installed my new MSI 1070 GTX Gaming X

After instillation I played some games, some games are fine for a while but some have this problem very quick.

I get a sudden freeze (whole computer freezes) the game will continue running but with the same picture in place. Audio freezes so I cannot hear the music of the game or anything else but the game is still open.

What I have tried so far is reinstalling all the drivers. Is this a PSU issue?

I looked at a website regarding voltages before this and supposedly it should of worked.

If this helps I had a Nvidia 770 before this, and sorry once again if I posted this in the wrong area.

Specifications
Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070
CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-4690K CPU @ 3.50GHz [with Coolermaster Hyper 212 EVO - Two Fans]
RAM: Corsair Vengeance 8 GB (2 x 4 GB) DDR3 1600
Motherboard: Gigabyte Z97P-D3 Intel LGA1150 Z97 ATX Motherboard
PSU: Corsair CP-9020098 VS650
HDD: Samsung 1TB HDD
SSD: Samsung SSD 840 EVO 120GB
SSD 2: Samsung SSD 850 EVO 250GB

Solution
Monitor your temperatures as a first things to do.

Provide the rest of your system specs. What PSU specifically, which GTX770 specifically. Case and fan layout would be helpful as well.

Could easily be drivers as well, it is a new card after all. But there could be any number of reasons for a problem and it may just be the rest of your computer. With a faster GPU your other components may be having trouble keeping up, like hitting a section of memory that wasn't used before, or just general overheating.

Hi thank you for the replies, my specifications are as follows

Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070
CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-4690K CPU @ 3.50GHz [with Coolermaster Hyper 212 EVO - Two Fans]
RAM: Corsair Vengeance 8 GB (2 x 4 GB) DDR3 1600
Motherboard: Gigabyte Z97P-D3 Intel LGA1150 Z97 ATX Motherboard
PSU: Corsair CP-9020098 VS650
HDD: Samsung 1TB HDD
SSD: Samsung SSD 840 EVO 120GB
SSD 2: Samsung SSD 850 EVO 250GB

The old card was a Asus GTX 770

Is there anyway of recording my temps so they log? When I run 3DMark and other similar programs the computer freezes.

The idle temperature is 57°C on the 1070 - this MSI one comes with Twin Frozr so supposedly overheating shouldn't a problem right?

-----

Also while posting this it froze again, this time it was while opening the Open Hardware Monitor software.

Froze yet again, this was without anything running which was high intensity or any sort of intensity.

Also worth mentioning I saw a few Reddit threads describing the same problem I am having with this but they were a Month ago.

Just ran DDU and I am reinstalling all drivers entirely. Hopefully this is the fix we are looking for.

I think I fixed this I will report back soon, no random freeze crashes yet. Had to use DDU to remove all my drivers and re-install. I will report back once I test this more thoroughly.

Drivers required a COMPLETE re-install, thanks everyone. I'll select Eximo as the solution regarding drivers.
