Hey friends!
I need a build that can edit 5k, 6k, so on. My PC right now lags in heavy edits.
It's sooo old but still a beast.
Motherboard---Gigabyte EP45-UD3P
RAM----8 gigs. 2 gigs each(800hz)
POWER----750 watt Silencer Quad(But I read you should replace anyway after 5 years?)
VIDEO---- Sapphire ATI, AMD R9-270X

Can I reuse any of this?
What new processor and board should I get?

Cheers

Solution

Then there is no reason to go for new case.
Even the PSU I provided has 10Year warranty. You can do another build using it.
What kind of budget are you looking at?

Pretty much everything in this build is undesired for editing.
CPU/Mobo is REALLY old, and memory is only DDR2.
Video card is not helping you at all, NVIDIA card on the other hand would help as many rendering software will utilize CUDA cores in NVIDIA cards.

I would recommend at minimum a Xeon 1231v3 with haswell motherboard, 16gb ram and a GTX 950

If you have a large budget then an X99 motherboard and 5th gen i7, 32gb ram, and GTX 1070

I don't know which case you have if it is a Mid-tower ATX case you can use it for the i7-5960X build but not for Xeon build. Xeon build needs Full-tower ATX case. If you have Full-tower it can be used for both.

What case do you have?
