Just under 2 years ago I bought a couple of these drives and added one of them into my pc. The other however has been unopened and on a shelf ever since. After remembering I had it I finally decided to install it today however when it boots there's a clicking noise - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gpjG6oPlGBQ (whether this may be the overall issue).

The drive name shows up shows in Device Manager and states that it's uninitialised. When open in Disk Management however it's volume is 0gb and whenever I try to mount it or initialise it warns that there is insufficient space on the drive. I've switched both the power cable and SATA cable and even tried it within an enclosure hooked up to my Mac but I'm still unable to initialise it on there!

Would appreciate it if anybody knows what this might be or what I need to do in order to initialise and use the drive!

Cheers :)

Hi there Jacck,

Sorry that you are facing some issues with your WD drive. :(
What is the model of the HDD?

Taking into account all the things you've tried and the fact that the drive is making some clicking noises, then I believe it has failed. It is recognized in BIOS as having 0 GB of storage capacity right?

In case the drive is under warranty, I believe you can just contact the place you got it from or our Support and eventually RMA the drive: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=9AH1VC

Let me know in case you have some more questions,

It's pretty sparse -

Just checked in Device Manager and it's now showing 'Unknown device' in disk drives whereas earlier on it at least recognised the HDD name / properties

Hey,

Yes the capacity still show's as 0gb however after trying everything possible I've done as you suggested and rang your support team! Luckily I'm still in the warranty period and they too suspect it's failed so I've opted for RMA replacement.

Many thanks for your time and help,
Jack :)
