I don't know if I got the right forum but.. I am receiving a new Motherboard the Asus Formula-Z from my current one the Asus A88MX-A. Here's my question. Can I just plug in my SSD which has Windows 10 already on it and boot it up with my new motherboard? Or would I have to format the SSD then install Windows 8.

In the event that I do have to format my SSD is there a way I can just install my new hardware and format my SSD in bios?

The Asus A88MX-A already came with Windows 8, I got Windows 10 from the promotion they had up until July 29/16. So I don't know if the key is an OEM or Retail. I would really like to keep it cause I hate all the boxes Windows 8 has.

Any sort of help would be greatly appreciated. :)

Did you build your PC or it's a pre built one we are talking about? I've never heard of a motherboard manufacturer selling a combo of motherboard+Windows, it's not common practice.

Anyway, your key is now upgraded to Windows 10, you can activate it on the new motherboard via the telephone activation process, just make sure you have the Original Windows Product Key sticker applied on your case.
