can i run a gtx 570 and a gtx 770 at the same time if there is slots for the two on my motherboard? or would it need to be two 570's or two 770's ?

You can run both, but it will be like using 2 GTX 570s at the same time, so it isn't really worth it, plus, you'd have to purchase an SLI Bridge.
