So I was planning on getting this gpu by ASUS: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?item=N82E16814126109

There are two 4 pin fan headers that are on the gpu itself so I wanted to get these fans: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?item=N82E16835181053

The problem is that these are 3 pin fans so would they not work on the 4 pin gpu headers? I don't mind if they go to max speed when activated by the gpu but I wouldn't want them to go max speed all the time.

If it looks like I will have to buy 4 pin fans does anyone have any suggestions? I can fit either 120mm or 140mm fans (Also I have a purple color going on but it isn't really that important to me).

Also my case is a corsair 300r and my mobo is a asus m5a99fx pro r2.0

That makes much more sense ;) Some people actually do strip out the original fans to put in noctuas for more quiet operation, but definitely not something you would want to do to a $700+ card without prior knowledge!

If you want good, quiet fans, noctua makes some great models that come in PWM versions (4pin).
If LEDs and fancy looks are more important than cost or noise, there's always...
WHY THE HELL WOULD YOU DO THAT!

Seriously, don't screw with the built in fans unless you know exactly what you are doing. If you want fancy LEDs, just buy some LEDs, an LED controller, and some motor wire (makes it nearly invisible), then mount the LEDs outside the fans so they shine on the fans.

Sorry, I think I didn't make myself clear enough. I don't want to mess with the fans on the actual gpu. The card itself has two 4 pin connectors for 2 ADDITIONAL external fans to connect so that they can be in sync with the gpu and its temps. Does that help with clarity at all? Sorry for being so unclear.
