Looking to upgrade my GPU, currently have a 560ti, considering the 1070 at this moment. Just wondering if my current system is capable of running the 1070?

CPU: Intel Core i5 4590 @ 3.30GHz
RAM: 8.00GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 532MHz
Motherboard: ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC. H97M-E (SOCKET 1150)
PSU: Antec 620w (Continous Power)

Thanks in advance.

Can also confirm, the gtx1070 will work fine in your PC. You will experience a massive performance gain considering you are currently gaming on a gtx560ti.

I would suggest adding another ram stick, as 16gb will complement your system very well, providing a lot of multitasking capability. More memory will make Alt+Tabbing out of a game much smoother.

That is the information I have been told by speccy, I left out (7-7-7-20) I am not sure what that means though. I am not much of a computer wiz and have had my pc built by a friend. What should I be checking? I believe the model is Corsair Dominator if that is of any help? Thankyou for your reply.

Looking forward to the boost in performance that's for sure! Getting ready for the Battlefield 1 beta and the new WoW expansion. Can you recommend a model of ram in particular? does it have to match my old ram? (Corsair Dominator) am I best to buy 2x4gb sticks?

Back to the GPU. Brand wise I was thinking of going with the ASUS GeForce GTX 1070 Founders Edition 8GB. This is the website I will be buying from, if you can see a better model please let me know. https://www.pccasegear.com/category/193_1829/graphics-cards/geforce-gtx-1070

Thankyou for your reply!

7-7-7-20 is the timings on your RAM, you will need to purchase RAM with identical timings in order for it to work optimally. However, I tried to find RAM with those timings and they are very scarce. The cheapest I could find was $140 for 2x2gb sticks. I would recommend removing that RAM and replacing it with this: http://www.umart.com.au/umart1/pro/Products-details.phtml?id=10&bid=2&sid=189650&id2=1

That is if you still wish to upgrade your RAM. Your PC can still function very well with only 8gb. It is when you start opening multiple applications and lots of tabs in your browser that extra RAM start making a difference.

This Asus 1070 is cheaper: http://www.umart.com.au/umart1/pro/Products-details.phtml?id=10&bid=2&sid=285376&id2=1 And it has better cooling than the Founders Edition.

That is very true, however, he may wish to upgrade his display in the future (if he has not done so already), and then he will regret not getting the gtx1070.

Exactly, so your current display and your path of update is what should define your choice. If you are cool with 1080p and won't considering upgrading to 2k, stick with Gtx 1060. But if you would like to go 2k, then choose Gtx 1070. But this means you need to expand your budget for the display too.

and more over , some games need GTX 1070 even at FHD for more than 60fps and everything maxed out.

"overkill" is the GTX 1080 in his case

You might be right, but as I said it all depends on his budget and preferences on display.
