I currently have a R9 280x paired with a i5 4670k (non oc'd) I recently bought a 144hz monitor strictly for csgo... Well that was a mistake because now every game I play, I want to play it at 144 fps XD. We all know that is something hard to accomplish at 1080p in AAA games. I don't want to spend too much and Im willing to go towards medium settings instead of getting a more powerful card. I saw the 1070 and thought it might be a good upgrade, Offering Titan X levels of performance.

What do you guys think? Am I crazy? Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

my 8GB 290X can still hit 70fps at 70Hz/1080p and highest settings with just about any AAA game released. the 8GB 1070 should pretty easily get up to 120Hz or higher with the same settings.
start by overclocking the 4670K, get a good 16GB of faster RAM, and the GTX 1070 will be flying. for $400 they are a great deal.

check some benchmarks of users playing at 1080p with those. they get pretty high up in the numbers.

It's a hell of an upgrade, I currently use a ZOTAC GTX 1070 AMP! EXTREME 8GB (upgraded from a EVGA GTX 770 SC ACX) and i'm loving it. High frames on every 1080p title on max settings except for Quantum Break and Arma 3. You can get high frames (above 144) in CS GO at probably all times and the temps were pretty good when you activate the custom curve (default curve) in MSI afterburner to let the temps be 30 or less in idle and 50 or 40 ingame (at 50 or 40% fan speed and an ambient of 28C which is quiet as hell). Don't forget to delete the AMD drivers using DDU (if you get the GTX 1070) and install the new NVIDIA drivers + configure the NVIDIA Control panel to maximize your frame gain (Power management set to maximum performance and single display performance).

My Specs:

GPU: ZOTAC GTX 1070 AMP! EXTREME 8GB (Stock)
CPU: i7 4790k @ 4.4 Ghz (Turbo Boost)
RAM: 16GB Corsair Vengeance (X.M.P Profile)
CPU Cooler: Corsair H60 ("Turbo Mode" cooling)
