Dead MB, CPU or PSU?

Hello,

Today I was not able to turn on my PC. The fans spin, I hear hard drive is spinning up though there is no signal to my display and no beep from MB. I tried running PC with different graphic card and one RAM/no RAM sticks, still no beep or anything on the display. I did tried reconnecting all power connectors to my MB without any success. I also tried clearing the CMOS without any result.

Only thing that I changed in the PC recently was graphic card (I bought second hand GeFroce GTX 770 OC from Gigabyte, which I used instead of Radeon 5850).

My specs are:

MB: Asrock 970 Extreme3 R2.0
CPU: AMD FX 6300 with stock cooler from AMD 8300
RAM: 2x 8GB GoodRam Play
Graphics: GeFroce GTX 770 windforce from Gigabyte
PSU: I do not remember the brand but it is 600 Watt one, which should be enough for this setup. Though it is 5 years old.

I'm guessing your CPU does not have any on-board graphics, if it does try that.

At the sounds of it, the issue originated from you changing your GPU, are you sure you've inserted it correctly.

Also, have you plugged the 8 Pin and 6 Pin connector into the GPU? I think it requires both of them, if not it will only require one of them.

There is no onboard graphics on CPU or MB. I've used new graphic card for few days without any issue. Today I tried switching back to my old Radeon and it did not solved my problem. I am sure that card was inserted properly each time, all power connectors are connected (6+8 with geforce and 6+6 with radeon) so power connection itself seems to be fine.

It seems like it would be something to do with the PCI-E Slot on your Motherboard, have you looked inside the connector to see if there is anything affecting the connection? If it seems clean, keep reaseating your new GPU and it may work one time, if it doesn't after a few retries, there could be an issue with the Motherboard's PCI-E Port.

Have you got a different computer to try the GPUs in? If so, try it in a different one and see if it works.

If it doesn't work, is your Motherboard still under warranty? There could be a fault with the PCI-E Port that has only just come up.

MB is not under warranty and I am sure that Radeon GPU is working just fine (it was working fine when i switched to GeForce). Then it appears I should look into buying new MB, right? Can I rule out CPU as source of my problems without checking it in other PC? None of my friends have AM3/AM2 socket PCs, so I am unable to check it on different machine.

I highly doubt it has anything to do with your CPU. The error only occurred since you changed your GPU, so an error either came from the PCI-E Port or from the GPU's. And I wouldn't recommend buying a new Motherboard straight away, is there nobody you know you could borrow their PC for a moment just to test your GPU?

As I said, new GPU worked great for few days in my MB. Do you think despite that it may be PCI-E issue?

fans and other devices not spinning up?

PSU fan spins? if not, does the paperclip test powers on the psu?

did you try clearing cmos by jumper and battery?

did you unplug all drives and unnecessary devices? run minimum configuration outside the case on a non conducting surface like cardboard, no foils or other packaging material

try another PSU

Problem was partially solved by replacing motherboard. Now computer posts but I have BSOD once windows starts booting up. Windows has problems with new hardware and requires installation media from me :/

did you replace it with another Asrock 970 Extreme3 R2.0? at least with a 970 chipset? if not try entering windows safe mode and uninstall chipset drivers or try to repair the installation of windows

is it a new motherboard? if not, reset bios
ahci sata mode enabled and not IDE or vice versa

Motherboard is MSI 970A-G43 Plus GL one but on the same chipset. I can not enter windows safe mode. Once I get Windows Image from Microsoft I will let you guys know if it helped.

P.S. It is new motherboard so no restart needed.
