I have plugged in the 2 6 pin power connectors to it and I have plugged it into the right pci-e slot and yet my computer won't recognise that a graphics card is inserted. My mother board is an ASUS Z170 Pro Gaming.

Solution

Fan running does not really say the video card is good or that it's getting the power it needs. The power supply you have is very good, it should run that card easily. Did you check for a newer BIOS for your motherboard.

Aside from this, you may want to have your friend swap out his power supply, it's not a very good brand http://www.hardwaresecrets.com/rocketfish-700-w-power-supply-review/10/

So we are either dealing with a motherboard problem or GPU. Can you put the GPU in another computer to test the GPU?

I gave it to a friend a day ago to test it and it worked perfectly fine. I'm also not sure that it is a motherboard problem because i have an internet card installed and it works perfectly fine.

I also forgot to mention this before but the GPU is a NVidia Geforce 275 896M

The internet card is in the first pci slot. I have a spare video card that i don't use anymore but I will try to use it in the morning.

Why are you putting in a 6 year old video card that is 1/3rd the speed of a 750 Ti, in a $200 motherboard?

What is your power supply brand and model? What is your friend's power supply brand and model?

I really don't need a video card but I have this one so I might as well try it and my power supply is a Corsair RM550x. My friend's power supply is a Rocketfish 750.

I have tested another video card and it has worked. However It does not need to be connected to the power supply while the one in question does. The one in question is able to have a good connection to the power supply as the fan is able to turn on it.

It was not already there. I just have it laying around since I don't think it's graphic capabilities are better than my on board graphics.

I was just curious because you have a high end motherboard but you were trying to use this old card with it, which seemed a bit strange. Usually someone that gets that range of motherboard would not be using a 6 year old video card with it, and finding out the reason could give more clues as to the issue (say you had a new card there that did not work so you were testing this one which also did not work).
