Hey,

I spent some time making a PCPartPicker build that I could game pretty well on. My budget was 1400$ or so CAD (going over possibly) and I came up with this. Can I get any opinions on how it looks? Thanks!

This is a bit better game performance wise because I min-maxed the parts selection a bit:

I like the way you did this. GTX 1070 added in is great. I think this is better than mine, and I may end up going with this. Thank you!

Just FYI, yours isn't necessarily bad in any sense, it's just I tried to squeeze as much gaming performance out of your budget as possible.

Overall great build, however, I'd recommend you to buy on brand RAM like Corsair, Patriot or HyperX. Also maybe upgrade your PSU (Power Supply) to a higher wattage like 650/700W and stick with the brands EVGA, Corsair, SeaSonic.

Sounds like reasonable advice. Thanks

You don't need more than 550Ws for a single GPU system, but you do need a high quality PSU. Corsair makes a lot of crappy PSUs along with some good ones, so they're a bad brand to recommend. SeaSonic is a good recommendation, and XFX is 90% SeaSonic PSus with an XFX sticker on them.

RAM brand is... ehhh not an issue unless you're going to try OCing it. Never really seen any problems with specific RAM brands in the last decade.

I see no issues at all with James Mason's build. The only change I would make is to get the i5-6600k for the future possibility of OC (easier to upgrade a MoBo only later than both).

From my many years as a CAD Admin, I can give you the following thoughts/tips:
It's important to realize that most general CAD programs or operations are single core/single thread. So the clock speed is the more important thing to have for basic CAD usage.
If you're planning on getting into simulation or rendering, threads are the key, so an i7 will actually benefit you where gamers see little gain for most uses.

Hope this helps.

CAD = Canadian Dollars, not Computer Assisted Design.

To be fair, I thought he meant Computer Assisted Design at first too before I saw the stores.

Although I'd like to get the i5-6600k, that would require a cooler and better mobo, and those 3 things would bring me way over budget.
