Drive 0 unallocated space, cannot perform clean install

Hi, so one day, I turn on my PC and I am shown a efi ver 2.31.

No matter, I perform a clean install like always (happened twice).

I get to the installation and I cannot install on to the driver, cannot delete the drive, cannot make a new partition.

My one and only SSD shows up, 239 GB free of 250GB.

I only have the available options: refresh, load driver, and new, everything else is greyed out.

I'm hoping someone with knowledge would know how to handle this.

Thanks in advance,

AQs

Solution
Try creating bootloader partition manually with diskpart

  • DISKPART
    LIST DISK
SELECT DISK X ( where X is the disk number)
    CLEAN
    CREATE PARTITION PRIMARY SIZE=300
    FORMAT FS=NTFS QUICK
    CREATE PARTITION EFI SIZE=260
    FORMAT FS=NTFS QUICK
    CREATE PARTITION MSR SIZE=128
    FORMAT FS=NTFS QUICK
    CREATE PARTITION PRIMARY
    FORMAT FS=NTFS QUICK
    EXIT
Then reboot and relaunch installation.
What's the SSD model name? and how old is it?
Use diskpart to clean the drive (available from windows installation media - repair computer/command prompt)

Hi, could you explain how I could get to diskpart? Everytime I turn on my PC, I'm only shown efi 2.31.

If I boot from USB, then it allows me to repair ro continue to install/custom.

I'm not sure how to get to diskpart.

I'm not sure what is wrong, but when I got into the commandprompt and typed diskpart, only MINWINPC shows up, nothing else, perhaps I will wait a bit longer and see what happens.

At this point, I have no idea what is wrong with the SSD.

Hey, sorry for the long reply. I did everything you have said and began to install Windows and it said it would create a new partition. But right now, I'm still seeing an hourglass. Nothing froze or anything, so I am still waiting patiently.

Will update if anything changes.

Edit: An error popped up "We couldn't create a new partition 0xf5fb5ea0.

Do you think the SSD died? I haven't been able to use my desktop for 3 weeks now.

All hope is lost :??: All I can do is stare at 'Drive 0 Unallocated Space'

Edit 2: A new error code popped up, 0x80300001.

It is a Samsung 850 EVO-Series 250GB 2.5" Solid State Drive, less than a year old.

I am creating a new bootable drive in the meantime, so I won't reply until tomorrow, as I am working on my laptop.

Thanks for all that you have done so far

Sorry for the long reply, slow internet and lack of USB.

I have a new Windows 10 USB.

I relaunch the installation and this pops up, "Windows couldn't install windows in the location you chose. Please check your media drive. 0x80300002."

I restart and try to repair, blue screen, cursor is gone.

At this point, should I simply purchase a new SSD?

Yes, and it says there are no partitions. Should I try creating the partition again?

I got to 'Create partition primary size=300' and it says 'Disk part has encountered an error: request could not be performed b/c of an I/O device error. See the system event log for more info.'

Everything just keeps getting worse :(

Edit: People say it could be faulty cables and ports. I just replaced the mobo and cables, so I'm not sure. Unless, I really have bad luck and it's the mobo and cables again..

Edit 2: Also, going to runs some tests on the SSD to see if it has gone bad.

Edit 3: Still not sure if the SSD has gone bad, even though it is detected on the Bios and all. Will rip out a HDD from another PC and test.

Since I didn't have another drive, I had to buy one.

But, yes, it did solve the problem.

I booted up on another SSD, plugged the old one back in, and it was not detected.

Restarted PC, could not boot. Unplug the old one, restart, PC boots fine.

I don't know why the SSD died, guess I was unlucky.

I threw the old one away. I even tested it on another PC to confirm it was that drive causing problems.

Yeah, I tried everything he suggested.

Turns out, the drive was not being detected correctly.

While it says detected and everything on screen, once another drive was plugged in, and booted up, the old one suddenly became undetected when I try to plug it back in. As said, even on restart, clean install, and another PC.

I've even tried other solutions: new motherboard, new cables, switching SATA ports, trying all ports on motherboard and cable, and nothing.

I really didn't want to buy a new SSD, but it turns out I did.

Best of luck
