I upgraded from a 7770 to an r9 280 and this is quite a large upgrade, when i've gone into games such as battlefield 4, arma 3 and squad i haven't really seen much of an improvement in FPS, there's a bit but not as much as i was expecting, literally like 5 fps improvement. I have tried taking all old driver off and putting the new ones on but im not 100% sure if i have done it correctly. Is there any other reasons why i'm not seeing much of an FPS improvement?
Thanks

Solution
Arma and BF4 are the standard of high cpu demanding games, some of the few games where an i7 shows a noticeable improvement over an i5.

So yea, it is no surprise that your PC is seeing no gain with the new GPU because the i3 is holding you back.

i have an I3 3220 processor which i plan on upgrading to an I5 soon but cannot afford it atm, i know that it will be bottlenecked but didn't think this much

Battlefield and Arma can be very CPU-intensive if you are playing on big maps.
Even my i5 3450 gets to 85-95% CPU load when I'm playing Battlefield 4.

Ahh okay my bad didn't realise how CPU intensive they were, is there any way i can utilise more gpu than cpu?

Games like arma are very CPU intensive so your CPU is causing the bottlenecks and for BF4 try to run that game at Mantle API see if there is any difference in performance.
