Hey i'm getting a Titan XP SLI system with an i7-6850 and rampage V edition 10. The only water cooling involved is a simple corsair CPU cooler. The Titans only have stock coolers. are they worth it without water coolers? they come already overclocked but will that overclock be severely limited by a lack of a watercooler?

Its a lot more money for a watercooled setup for me. is it worth it? are the titans worth it without watercooling to allow them to be pushed to their limits? This is for a 1440p 144hz build.

Thanks for any help.

I always question when people say they want to 'push overclocks to their limits'.

Here is the issue on that - if someone is going to be doing just this, they likely already know what will be needed on both the cooling and the overclocking side.

Also, overclocking capability relies VERY heavily on your luck on what components you have, the stability of those components and your overclocking skill. Not every i7-6850 is going to overclock with the same speeds, timings and voltages. Not every Titan will overclock in the same manner.
For a 1440P 144hz build, a single Titan XP is probably plenty. Also, like mentioned above, "worth it" depends on what you are trying to achieve. Even with stock cooling, these cards are going to be fast. If custom cooled, they should be faster, as the clocks would stay constant as temps should always be low. For actual overclocking, they likely won't go much further than air regarding clockspeeds, but they will stay at the higher speeds as temps wouldn't be an issue if setup correctly.

I think so. The stock cooler will do a better job than any other air cooler of keeping the 2 cards from cooking each other. I have 2 980TI's in SLI - not the same card, but the same cooler and the same TDP. I was able to overclock them by 35%.

Absolutely true. In this case, your are limited not only by the your luck at getting one good overclocker, but your luck at going for 2 for 2. It seems like the OP is asking if overclocking would be drastically impacted by running in SLI. I don't find this to be the case, unless one card is an absolute dog. The trick is to put the card that is the poorer overclocker in the bottom slot, or the slot farthest away from the CPU. Since both cards will usually run at the speed of the slower card, this prevents the slower card's OC headroom from being impacted by running in the top position. My weaker card can run at 1468MHz when it's installed by itself, and this is also the speed that both cards run at when they're installed together.

They will work without water cooler . but make sure you get an ATX motherboar and not MATX , because in micro ATX they will be next each others .

Install them with 1 or 2 slots free in between.

and If you choose a case with side blowing fan on them would be great as well.

If you want a Window and no Side fan , get a case with 2 front intake fans.

If I had that much money to burn, I would do it. I would love to be able run at 1440P at 144Hz with all max. quality settings. My 2 980TI's are not even *close* to having enough power to do it in some games, so I could see wanting to try it with 2 Titans. I think it would still be impossible with 2 Titans in some titles. PC games have enough optional eye candy to chew up more GPU power than you can get with any amount of money, especially with the ultra-high end of monitors or with spanned monitors.
