Cpu is a 4690k and mobo is a z97 krait. OS is windows 10.

Idle temps are slightly above normal at 40s. My temps before were in the 30s only never going pass 40.

40's idle is not concerning. Your CPU does not throttle until 100c, and mobile versions of it run for years without problem at 90c+.

it just happened yesterday. I think it auto enabled when i kept disabling and enabling my integrated graphics card as i was trying to hook up my 2nd monitor using the igpu
