The i7-6900K supports memory frequency's of up to DDR4-2400MHz natively via the IMC(integrated memory controller) but if you'd like to go to 2800MHz then you're going to need to perform an overclock which will depend on your motherboard. Is it possible to pass on your current/intended system's specs? You will also need to make sure your BIOS is up to date to ensure system stability with concurrent hardware and OS.
