Hello,
I have a Phenom II x4 965 and recently I have been having some high temps. they usually go up to 70c, but I try my best to keep them under 60-62c. Today I noticed that the ferquency of CPU was up to 4.1 while playing.

I just installed the ASUS TurboV EVO but Im too affraid (and noob :( ) to touch anything in there.

Does this mean that I am overclocking my CPU? And does this really affect my temps? If yes how can I set it back to default.
Thanks.

P.S: My full specs:

OS: Windows 7 Ultimate
CPU: AMD Phenom II X4 965 3.4GHz
GPU: Gigabyte Geforce GT 630 2GB Edition
RAM: 1x4GB RAM
Motherboard: Asus M4A89GTD PRO

Solution
Yes. Stock settings for a 965 is 200Mhz x 17 for 3.4Ghz. Yours is overclocked via BCLK which is odd since it's an unlocked multi chip. Voltage is pretty high too, most 965's were run at 1.4v or below IIRC. That's probably why it's getting warm.

So, does this mean that I have to change those settings? If yes, should I do that in BIOS or ASUS TurboV EVO?

The thing is that I installed TurboV just before posting this thread, and the problem started a long time ago. Probably when I reapplied thermal paste. I did it twice within a week because I wasnt sure if I applied correctly the 1st one (mistakenly broke the seal between cpu and heatsink while setting it up), and on boot, I was asked to use default settings (for cpu i guess) or custom, so I did default.

By "on boot" do you mean you entered the BIOS, or was it something else? I would still uninstall that tool and use the BIOS to make changes. Knowing that it's stable at 4.1Ghz 1.5v you could really dial in a little overclock. It might be stable at 200 x 20 (4Ghz) 1.35-1.4v.

Once I started my PC, the motherboard screen showed up (as it shows to everyone), then it showed that a new CPU was installed, I pressed F1 for default setup.

Today I went into bios and took some photos of the settings:

After this I set "Ai Overclock Tuner" to "AUTO" and then back to "Manual" and those settings showed up:

The rest is auto, meaning same as other pictures above.

So, did I do anything wrong? Should I apply those settings?

P.S: Btw thanks for your help.

Ok, I appliet settings, played my "daily game dose" yesterday and temps were good I guess. Tho, game crashed 2 times in 3 hours, not sure if its the CPU, but Ill try to set it to 3.8GHz (200 x 19).
Thanks for your help.

P.S: Ill post here how it goes, if thread doesnt get locked.

EDIT: Great so far, temps reduced
