Howdy,
So I've recently decided that the Boardwell-E Core i7 6850K is going to be my next CPU. I don't have a plan to utilize all of the 40 PCIe lanes yet, or even the 128 GB Ram maximum; however, I like that they're options. Right now, the only things set in stone is I'll be throwing a GTX 1080 in (possibly a 2nd in the future) and an M.2 Samsung Pro 950. Most X99 boards have USB 3+, but that'll also be needed as I'm connecting an Oculus Rift or HTC Vive to it.

What are some of the X99 boards you'd suggest? I'd been looking at MSI X99A Gaming 7 or X99A MPower. I hear a lot of good things about Asus though, Gigabyte, etc? I'm not really against anything, just curious what's out there and what people like/why.

Thanks a ton!~

PS: This will sound odd, but I do not plan to overclock anything... lol.

Thanks for the response everyone!
I wasn't planning to get the parts this fast, but after having been going through the process repeatedly and taking people's suggestions into account... and the fact someone told me I could use their Prime account and get free 2 day shipping on everything making it all get here just days before my birthday, I said fuck caution and ordered it, lol.

Case: Corsair Graphite Series 780T Full Tower (White) $174.80
Mobo: Asus X99-DELUXE II $419.00
CPU: Intel Core i7-6850K $609.99
RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX 64GB DDR4 3200MHz $389.99
GPU: ASUS GeForce GTX 1080 8GB ROG STRIX $669.99
PSU: EVGA SuperNOVA 850 G2 $119.99
CPU Fan: Noctua NH-D15 82.5 CFM CPU Cooler $88.49
SSD: Samsung 950 PRO - 512GB PCIe NVMe - M.2...
Out of those listed, the Phoenix SLI is the best value imo.
@OP, the Gaming 7 is one of the better x99 boards, but what I would suggest is the Asus x99 A-II in the midrange at $220, as it is perfect for your needs, and provides ample support and recent connections.
The Asus x99 Deluxe II which is imo the best x99 board you can get sells at $400, and is top of the line.
Any preference in terms of color scheme?

Admirable
I think with not needing fine and complete tuning for big overclocks, or the power delivery and socket to support it (among the larger differences between boards for 2011v3), then I would just consider your I/O needs.

This offers everything up to date:

And would be great if you don't want integrated WiFi, or need/want something like dual LAN.

this would also be wonderful if you're into a little flashier:

I hadn't been looking at any ASUS boards previously, but after checking into em here on Tom's Hardware, I see a lot of people prefer them, say they tend to work better or last longer, so I've been interested in taking a look. I have no color preference yet, as I figured the board will kind of set the way on that; although, I'm a huge fan of RGB allowing me to change color at will, or red. Looking to spend between $200-$500, but for sake of this thread, money's no object when I build this. I'll check out both of the boards you listed, thanks a ton!~

Haha, I was just looking for at Gigabyte boards for a minute last night! It's another brand I've been hearing good things about. For internet usage, I like to stay connected via cable, so yeah, don't really need integrated wifi. The X99 A II seems pretty similar to the X99 Deluxe II so I'll have to compare em and with the others later. You're definitely spot on with the power adjustments and such, as I plan to run pretty much all of it stock, which is why I/O is more important to me. Great suggestions, thanks!~

There's really nothing wrong with my current PC that I'm upset with, but I needed a mobo upgrade to run an HTC Vive or Oculus Rift. I know I prefer CPU's above 4 core as I do a lot of CPU intensive video editing and 3d model rendering. I also play a lot of video games and figured this would be the first time I've ever owned a top of the line GPU. Since I was already looking at a 2011v3, and I knew those supported bootable M.2 slots, why not get the fastest harddrive currently on the market. Beyond those things, it was all about what will work with eachother. It was still about $3k with protection plans and tax, but I'm super excited now and can't even begin to imagine how this will actually run. I know I could've saved costs on some of the stuff, but I've never spent more than $1000 on a computer and figured if I was gonna go high, might as well get everything I've wanted, lol. Wish me luck ;)
