Hi all,

I need suggestions for a good fan for an AMD FX-6300 CPU. Right now my CPU runs at around 120°C and it makes the PC shut off often. I'm in the US if that makes any difference.

Thanks.

Solution
you might not even need a new fan unless the fan is not working AT ALL. Check for a few things.
1. Make sure the thermal paste is not worn out. Try Re applying the thermal paste.
2. Did you overclock lately? NEVER overclock on a stock cooler.
3. Check the inside of your case to make sure the fan blades are spinning.

BTW, use HWMonitor to check CPU temps.

I see, I thought that's what the BIOS software said. Maybe it's faulty?

Looking at the 212 EVO and it looks good.

I installed AMD OD and it reports Between 11°C and 40°C. At what temperature would it be programmed to shut off?
Also it usually shuts off when I'm playing a game. Would there be any way to monitor the temperature while it's trying to process the game code and such?

When AMD OD reports the processor running at 0C thermal margin that means its running its maximum temps (62C).
Prime95 is a great way to check temps, it will place more load on the system than pretty much anything else would.

AMD processors shutdown when they need to, temps vary. If your thermal margin is in the negative I would hold out for a new cooler.

I actually just shut down and seconds before that I checked the temperature and it was actually in the negatives, the temp itself, not the margin. Guess the temp isn't the problem.
