Been debating the decision for 5 hours now. Limited budget at the moment which is what brings this dilemma.
The fps difference between them is obvious, however I own an Asus VE278Q, basically a dinosaur 1080p 60hz monitor. I want to upgrade monitor to a 1440p 144hz or a 4k monitor, but I probably won't be able to for another 6mo to a year since these cards deserve a g sync with at least 28inches. I have no idea when the prices for monitors will drop and since the 1080 can't hold 60fps stable on 4k on benchmark games, is it worth it? I mean it won't be long until new benchmark games come out. 1440p sounds nice, but I'm so use to the gleam of 60hz, chances are a 4k would be nicer.
Would you get the cheaper 1060 (msi gaming x) and just wait to resell then upgrade to whatever is best with 4k monitor? Get the mid tier 1070 (Asus ROG Strix) which can average 70 fps on 1440p, SLI it down the road for 4k? Bench marks show 5-10 fps gain over a single GTX 1080 in 4k; only seen gamernexus post the benches for that comparison. Say f*ck it, 1080 it is, wait for prices to drop then SLI and 4k? (probably 2-3 years)
