Display keeps going black

Happened three times today. Twice while playing a game and once while watching a video. Display went completely black but the computer still continued to run until I restart it.

How can I find the root of the problem?

Do the fans spin on your gpu and have you tried a different display port/cable

try this

1 Turn on the pc
2 As soon as you press the power button start tapping escape
3 you should see a startup menu select the system recovery and press enter
4 w8 until another menu shows up and select the language
5 select the trouble shoting option
6 than go to advanced
7 and system restart
8 and choose you windows
9 than press continue
10 check the box in the bottom left
11 select the first bar/ line of words and press next
12 press finish and press yes/ok

Yeah I switched to another port and no dice.

I'll follow your steps when I get home but exactly is this process called and whats it do?

Well u basicly use the boot up menu to revert/clear a couple of changes/problems that your computer might of detected but ti doesent show them.
