Will a used HDD with memory work with a new custom built PC?

So I plan on building a gaming PC later on in the year. I've already got everything sorted out and I was planning to just take the CPU and the HDD out of my current PC and put it in the new one. I'm going to install Windows and all of the other drivers I need and I want to know if the HDD I have now will work in the new PC. I really don't want to install everything all over again because my current HDD has around 500GB of games and whatever else. Any help is appreciated, thanks.

Yes, you can use your existing hard drive. No you can not use your current OS install. You'll need to do a fresh install of windows and all your programs.

So do I need to erase everything from the hard drive before the install?

You don't need to erase everything if you don't want to. But it's not going to boot and you'll have to do an over install of the OS.
