The 1 TB SSD would be much faster than any regular drive, but would also be much more expensive. The standard recommended SSD, Samsung EVO is about $300 for 1TB, the lower tier ones are $250.
Unless you need the storage space, you can get a drive half the size or less, and pay about $100-150. I bought a 480 GB drive for my parents from PNY for about $120.
You may also want to look at the hybrid drives which have a flash cache to help the regular drive work faster as the drive learns how you use it, they are about 1/2 to 1/3rd the price of a 1TB SSD, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822178869
The drive would come with a backup and restore utility you can use to move from your current drive. You will need some sort of external USB enclosure to do this.
